“Tuffy Jac jackets are a real icon of American clothing. Used by the military, the police, sheriffs office and security firms alike all of whom favoured them for their design and practicality. A sort of half way point between a flight jacket and a deck jacket the Tuffy Jac has several features of each as well as a few of its own, such as the chest tab for mounting an insignia such as a sheriff's badge and the removable epaulettes. These are great cold weather jackets and genuine vintage examples are not often seen this side of the atlantic. While these remained in production for many years, this is quite an early example probably dating to the 1970s.
One of my favourite details it that this jacket still retains its original Talon Zipper. Talon were one of the oldest and most prolific of the US's zip manufactures. These are something always keep a look out for as they are both the mark of a true piece of American vintage as well as being a mark of a quality garment. Such is their following among collectors of vintage clothing that a tiny Japanese firm now makes replicas for high end menswear! Another detail I love is the zigzag top stitching on the underside of the collar, which also features a great throat strap. It's had a bit of a life as you can see and has a few small marks but is solid and strong as ever!”
