"Although we don’t know where exactly these marker flags came from, we can hazard a guess at them either being vehicle markers from the army or from some kind of nautical background, possibly a sailing club. At a guess we would say they are from the 1940s to 1960s. They are all double sided, and made from separate pieces of cloth for each colour, rather than just a being printed colours on single piece of material. The letters are all hand cut and stitched on, and the hanging end allows them to be threaded on small gauge rope."
