"There was a time when everyone carried that most practical of everyday tools; the pen knife. Sheffield used to produce amongst the best pocket knives in the world. Makers known as ‘Little messers’ (little masters) produced them in a multitude of tiny workshops across the city, practitioners of an art that is now all but lost. ‘Ring turn’ knives such as this were designed so that you could simply turn the ring to open the blade. There is a bit of a myth that they were thought up with women in mind to prevent broken nails but in reality it just makes them easier to open! Both the blades and sides of ‘scales’ of this knife are made from stainless steel and are marked Sheffield. This is a lovely little knife."
