"The steelyard has been around since Roman times as a way of measuring the weight of pretty much anything. This steelyard is a little more recent and probably dates from the turn of the last century, a portable version used to weigh smaller quantities of goods, working on the principal of the lever the sliding weight on the main beam would accurately measure any goods suspended from the various hooks on the other end.
Nice patina and wear associated with it’s age this steelyard would make a nice display item in a bakers or similar businesses or in a Victorian style kitchen"
