“Released in September 1951, the cost of these Roberts RMB valve radios was £26 5s 0d including tax and batteries.
Since their beginnings in the 1930s the Roberts name was a byword for quality and their radios would go on to be sold around the world. This particular model is the RMB (Roberts Mains Battery) and could be run from mains electricity or from batteries and was therefore considered to be portable, hence the handle.
This radio performs well (giving good volume for its size), although no battery is provided. It will runs off mains power, but we recommend asking a qualified electrician to check it over."
