Vintspiration: Series 34
January 05, 2018 - Inspiration
Welcome to the first VINTsiration of 2018: we're back up and running and this marks the 34th in the series.
India! We’ve just been to India again. And that got us thinking. What better mode of transport than a tuk-tuk? Okay, maybe a Land Rover, but we’ve got one those. It turns out you can buy a beautiful new one here.
Enamelware! We came back from India with a bag full (literally) of enamelware. We’ve found some of this in auctions in Britain in the last few years but came across a treasure trove of it in Kerala. We could have bought trunks of the stuff. It was made in Europe for the Indian market and now it’s back home again. Many people know the brightly coloured enamel that India is famed for; but this, in deep blues, confident greens and subtle reds is wonderful.
Cabins! We’ve been thinking about cabins a lot recently (it’s a long story). This is our favourite recent find.
Soane Britain. Do you know this company? They make (often very expensive) lovely goods in the UK. Their hand printed fabrics are amazing. Most intriguingly to us, they own the only surviving rattan weaving factory in the UK and the lamp shades at the top of this piece are a brilliant product of that factory. They are also here.
David Shrigley. Someone gave me this for Christmas. I do collect records and I am obsessed with them. An essential (?!) item for any vinyl lover.
