The Good The Bad and The Queen

What the critics say
‘Positively crackles with life and melody throughout’. PopMatters

If you want to try the best album of 2007 or you like Blur, Gorillaz, The Clash, The Kinks or Syd Barrett try…

Who are they?
Damon Albarn, renaissance man and lead singer of Blur and Gorillaz.  Paul Simonon of the Clash.  Simon Tong of The Verve and Gorillaz.  And Tony Allen (who Brian Eno regards as the greatest drummer ever) of Fela Kuti.  So, quite a line up, then.

What do I get?
A bold, startling, complex record that’ll slowly reveal its charms, offering up new twists and turns with each listen. Once these melodies have you hooked, this fantastic record of intelligent, literate pop will refuse to leave you alone.  The Good The Bad And The Queen is infused with subtle shades of reggae, pop, dub, music hall, Britpop and Afrobeat.  But the record’s principal strength is its songs; there isn’t a weak track here.  An absolutely indispensable record.

And?
In 2007 Albarn even found time to compose Monkey, a Chinese opera which premiered in Manchester.  We loved it.  If it comes back to the UK don’t miss it.
