Richard Hawley. Lady's Bridge

‘This is music to connect the generations: beautiful, moving pop at its best.’ The Guardian.

If you want to connect with one of the UK's most important and critically acclaimed singers try

Who is he?
A former member of Pulp.  This is his fifth solo album.

What do I get?
An album full of lovely, melancholy 1950s-flecked songs centred around Hawley’s deep, rich voice and driven along by piano, majestic strings and acoustic guitar.  Lady’s Bridge is real wide-screen stuff: it sounds like it should be the soundtrack to a classic black and white film.  Lady’s Bridge may be rooted in the musical traditions of fifty years ago, but it is much, much more than a harmless pastiche. This is spine-tingling stuff.

And?
When The Artic Monkeys pipped Hawley’s last album to the post by winning the 2007 Mercury Music Prize, their acceptance speech was brief…‘Someone call 999! Richard Hawley’s been robbed’.  Enough said.
